| Monday, March 3, 2008 Update: The Secrets of Continuing
We're now less than a week away from the American launch of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It's been a long road, friends, but the wait is almost over. The SmashBros.com Dojo has continued to push forward through these last few weeks, of course, and will still keep going for another few weeks after the release of the game. So stay tuned both in the week to come, and after you've finally gotten your hands on your very own American copy of Brawl.
Today's update is "The Secrets of Continuing" and is a look at the conditions surrounding Brawl's Game Over screen. If you fail in Classic Mode or The Subspace Emissary, you'll be given a chance to continue – but it'll cost ya. Your score will be cut in half in Classic Mode every time you fail and have to continue, and in Subspace you'll lose halfs of the Trophies and Stickers you've collected up to that point.
Additionally, you'll be charged a restarting fee of game Coins to get going again, and the amount of Coins increases as the difficulty setting does. You'll need to stockpile a sizeable surplus of cash before attempting to tackle the toughest challenges, like the Intense difficulty level. Because if you lose all your lives and you can't pay the piper to keep on rolling, it's Game Over for you. |

| Tuesday, March 4, 2008 Updates: Donkey Kong's Special Moves, the 75m Stage and IGN's Official Video Review of Brawl
A triple update hits the FAQ today. First up, Donkey Kong. His Special Moves haven't been altered since Super Smash Bros. Melee, but there are at least some fresh new screenshots of his Giant Punch, Head Butt and Meteor Smashes in action today. Check out the screenshot gallery.
And, while you're there, you'll notice more new shots, also related to DK – it's the 75m Stage, a level based on the original Donkey Kong arcade game. It's a perfect recreation of one of the four screens from that coin-op classic, and even features an oversized, pixelized Donkey Kong standing at the top of the stage and throwing his own brand of old-school punches.
The biggest news today by far, though, is that we've now gone live with our official, United States exclusive reviews for Brawl. You can click here to read Matt and Bozon's thoughts on the game in written form. And, if you want to listen to their words while watching fresh footage of the game in action, check it out just below. Only a few days left before launch, everyone! |

| Wednesday, March 5, 2008 Update: Item Art
Today's update down at the Dojo was both massive and minuscule at once – a full-on rundown of every item in the game. That's massive because there are a ton of items. But it's also not such a major update, since we already knew about almost all of them through previous updates.
A few of the items worth mentioning that hadn't previously been officially featured on SmashBros.com include the Unira, which is a spiked urchin from Clu Clu Land; the Blast Box, which will explode after struck with a strong attack or fire-based blow; the Soccer Ball, which will engulf itself in flames once kicked; and the Sandbag. He's been previously seen in the game's Home Run Contest, but now it appears he'll also sometimes show up in the middle of standard battles. Beat him senseless and he might just burst open to pour out yet more manic items.
Click on the image below to jump over to our Smash media gallery and take a look at all of the item artwork. There's a total of 59 new additions today: |

| IGN Crashing Midnight Smash Launch Live in LA? Get your party on with us at the CityWalk GameStop! by Bozon March 7, 2008 - What's better than buying Smash Bros. at 12:00 a.m. tomorrow night? Oh we don't know, except maybe buying Smash Bros. at 12:00 a.m. tomorrow night while hanging out with the IGN crew, kicking the crap out of noobs in a Smash tournament, and rocking non-stop all night (way past your normal bed time) at the GameStop in CityWalk California.
If you live in the Los Angeles area and are looking for the best way to spend tomorrow night, look no further. What else could you have planned? Hanging out with your parents? Hooking up with some totally hot babe? That stuff is for nerds, and you know it. Instead, cruise on down to CityWalk tomorrow night around 8:00 for the Smash Bros. tourney, and then line up for your copy of Brawl starting two hours later.
Our motto: Party until you break something and have to leave. The IGN super friends will be in attendance (that'd be the killer lineup of Matt Casamassina, Mark Bozon, Jessica Chobot, and video superstar Kyle Watson), along with whoever else joins up with us along the way. It's a good old fashioned posse, minus the pillowcase of doorknobs.
Don't lie to yourself. You've got nothing else going on, so hit us up at CityWalk tomorrow, and bring your A-game. Smash has arrived, the battle is on, and there can be only one! |

| Wednesday, March 12, 2008 Update: More Masterpieces
Trial versions of several Nintendo classics are available to play in Brawl through the game's Masterpieces mode, but not every demo is unlocked from the start. You'll have to work to earn the five hidden ones, which include Donkey Kong, F-Zero, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. That's all good and well, Nintendo, but where are the demos of some other unreleased classics, huh? Where's EarthBound, or Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island? That's a missed marketing opportunity, I think. |

| Snake Mission Update Videos Over 35 hidden taunts? We demo our favorites, and give you the intel you need to show them off. by Bozon March 12, 2008 - Super Smash Bros. Brawl may be out already, but that doesn't mean the surprises are over. Here at IGN (and already popping up all over the net) players are discovering that Solid Snake has not only his main box taunt in the game, but also a hidden secret taunt, and it's a big one.
Remember Snake's charming entrance into the Smash world a few E3s ago? The trailer finished, everyone cheered, and then up pops the classic Metal Gear codec. The Colonel sat on one side, and on the other, the infamous Solid Snake. The trailer continued on with the Colonel briefing Snake on what would end up being his strangest mission yet, and the short video wrapped up with the secret agent himself on a recon mission within enemy territory.
It's showtime! Apparently his mission intel is still streaming in on a match-by-match basis, but unless players know how to access it they won't be able to get updates from HQ. So how do you get these secret codec updates? Head to Shadow Moses Island (Snake's stage) and play as Snake against any competitor in the game, and quickly tap down on the d-pad. When performed correctly, Snake will ditch his common box gimmick, and instead radio in to the Colonel and initiate a short skit detailing info on the player he's currently facing off against. Get hit, however, and the video will stop, so it's obvious that this was put in as a hidden wink to the fans, and not an on-the-fly taunt to use in actual competitions. Also, be careful when radioing in, as it'll only work once a match, and only on Snake's home stage.
But don't rush off just yet, eager Smash fans. IGN has the intel you need right here, starting with the top ten fighters in the game. Click below and you can check out their briefings in action, and then check back here each day as we update our list with ten more contenders until we've hit them all. |
